ABOUT US
Let's be honest, we all have an 'inner geek'.
There's something that all of us love that others just don't 'get' - whether it be Star Wars, Marvel and DC Comics, Super Mario, The Mandalorian, Ghostbusters, Jurassic Park, Pusheen, Disney, Friends, Stranger Things or even Harry Potter and The Wizarding World.
Well here at The Geek Side we welcome you to embrace your inner geek. Whether you're looking for the ideal gift for your friend or other half, or just something for yourself (if you can't treat yourself, then what's the point, right?), trust us, we have something for you!
We are most proud of our extensive Harry Potter shop on the first floor, which attracts thousands of aspiring witches and wizards (and even muggles!) every week.
Welcome to The Geek Side.
EMBRACE YOUR GEEK SIDE

Technically, The Geek Side started back in the Summer of 2016 when the store opened its doors in Skipton's very own Diagon Alley-esque Craven Court Shopping Centre. But it really started when owner - and self-confessed geek - Zoe, was growing up playing Super Mario and Bomberman on the SNES, Sonic on the Sega Mega Drive, RoboCod and James Pond on the Amega, watching Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Disney movies, Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and even horror films - The Thing, Alien, The Terminator and The Fly being firm favourites!
The love for anything nerdy meant she never really 'fit in' with the girly girls, but it never left her as she got older - if anything, her passion for it grew. She decided to open a shop dedicated to selling everything she loves, all under one roof - and so, The Geek Side was born.
Since then, the independent store has gone from strength to strength, expanding the ranges available and winning the Local Legend: Skipton's Favourite Independent Shop award by The Yorkshire Press numerous times, voted for by locals and visitors of the town.

WHERE IT BEGAN

Independent shops are what make towns and city centres unique and individual, that you won't find anywhere else - and that is definitely something we strive to deliver here at The Geek Side!
Independent retailers offer choice, diversity of product and service, tradition as well as innovation, and a more personal service to customers. They are also job creators and contributors to local and national economies. And with retail spending under pressure, never have they needed your support more.
It’s no secret that shoppers want diversity in their High Streets and independent retailers that give their towns a distinct character and service. So buying those new clothes, meeting your DIY requirements, shopping for a piece of kitchenware, getting a gift and a card for someone special, treating your pet or just having a coffee and something to eat with an independent outlet makes the world of difference.

As a shopper it's your chance to show some love for the independent retailers you value most both in your local communities and online - the ones you wouldn’t want to live without! So keep supporting your small local shops to help make them a success.

PROUDLY INDEPENDENT
Buying new merch from your favourite brands is always an amazing feeling, but looking after our planet feels even better! That's why we are always looking for ways to improve our business practices. We have converted to using biodegradable carrier bags and mailers and we also recycle and reuse packaging that we receive from suppliers.
You may have noticed an increased in alternative materials (instead of plastic) in our products, including rice husk, bamboo and even BDP™. BDP™ (breakdown plastic), includes an organic additive that helps plastic decompose in landfill without affecting either it’s structural integrity before landfill or the recyclability of the product. BDP™ makes the plastic irresistible to the microbes in the landfill reducing the time taken to decompose from thousands of years to just a few.
We are now a proud stockist of OnePointFive, which is a new fashion brand designed to help climate change. Each garment is made from a percentage of recycled materials. Our current range includes officially licensed clothing from the hit TV series, Stranger Things.
We are always looking for ways to improve the way we work here at The Geek Side, so please feel free to get in touch with us via our contact form, live chat function, social media pages or by email at hello@geekside.co.uk.
DOING OUR BIT
Over the years, the owner and staff here at The Geek Side have raised money and awareness for many charities that are very close to our hearts. This has included Cancer Research, Breast Cancer Care, Barnardo's, The Solomon Project, Pendleside Hospice, Pendle Dogs In Need, CRY (Care and Relief for the Young) and many more.
Our chosen charity at the moment is Richmond Fellowship, which is an organisation that helps people suffering with all kinds of mental health problems.
Head Geek, Zoe, recently spent a week in one of their crisis houses (Oak House, Burnley) after suffering with depression for many years having found the services that the NHS currently offer ineffective and, a lot of the time, counterproductive making things much worse.
The week at Oak House, Burnley consisted of intense daily sessions, designed specifically for each individuals needs, giving them the tools to be able to cope back out in the real world at home and in work.
"The work that the team does at Oak House is simply amazing. I was at breaking point and honestly don't think I would still be here if it wasn't for the incredible work that they do. The sessions the charity provided were very insightful, helpful and validating. Thank you so much!"
We have set up a link where you can donate direct to the charity. Simply click the donate button below.
